Wow, what a story! Absolutely loved this. Thank you for sharing. And my horror at the woman in the grocery store!! Unbelievable. Love that you are baking your own challah for your child.
Thank you Rey! I’m so happy you enjoyed my very first post...I will never forget the horrible grocery store woman. Can’t make this stuff up. Your readership means everything.
Although I have baked, cooked, and read recipes for many years, somehow I had not become acquainted with the work of Beth Hensperger. After reading your newsletter, I ordered a few of her books from an online used book seller. The books arrived today, all in very good condition. I will enjoy reading them over the rest of my holiday. As a person with celiac disease, I will have to adapt the recipes for gluten-free baking, but I am accustomed to doing that. Thank you for introducing me to a new baking author!
Fantastic!! I have no doubt you will enjoy Beth Hensperger's books. If memory serves, she also taught bread baking classes in San Francisco. Nice she lives on in her books...and now your kitchen!
OH MY GOSH, this is fabulous, Suzanne! Congratulations on this gorgeous new Substack. I'm so excited to see this come alive. Congratulations!! It's just beautiful. And timely. I love it, and you!

As a once-tentative, now-confident challah baker myself, I loved this story. Welcome to Substack! 🤗🍞
Thank you Maddie! It’s a VERY big thrill to be in Substack and know a fellow challah baker is reading LKC!
