You love oatmeal, I hate it. I love shrimp, you hate them! How are we even friends?

And yes, I wish the same thing for myself and that we lived closer to each other.

Not to worry! Even a small stash of shrimp shells will amp up flavor. So glad you’re enjoying the posts!

I love thinking of shrimp as the extroverts -- makes me wonder about the clams (classic introverts?!) and of course, the snails. What a novel way to think about it. Shrimp are kind of bossy, too in a dish, you think? But take the shells off, and you're making a broth with their bravado. I've spent a lot of time (too much) trying to decide who are my people. I've left jobs because "they're just not my people." It isn't either. I think when you find your people, or person, or persons, hang on for dear life, right? Don'tlet them drift off. Go over and get them. Call first. Text first. (but I'm a bit of an extrovert).Still, lately, Suzanne Orrell, I find my people increasingly, are writers. They're smart, they're funny, they think about things and they do language. And with you, my other creative bent of cooking comes in. So it's perfect. Let's be (Substack) friends. ;-)

Suzanne, you need to know that I hate shrimp. HATE IT. And I'm an extrovert! However, I love "Quiet," and I am an extrovert who lives her life surrounded by introverts, so maybe that explains it?! In any event, loneliness is real, and knowing you as I do, I really don't think it's a "you" problem (although I am often guilty of blaming myself for these types of interpersonal problems that crop up in my life). As you said, it's often hardest to take the advice that is so easy to give. I hope your 2024 is filled with more genuine connection and less loneliness. I just wish we lived closer.

I look forward to each edition of your chronicles! I may try saving the shells. But I'm not sure how long it will take for me to accumulate enough! Something to ponder....
